Such machines tend to be of low quality. If there is not much grass to be taken care of, such machines would work for a long time. However, if there is a large lawn that is to be mown or you are required to mow every weekend, a better ride on would be your best bet. If you need something better than a residential machine, you would have to go for equipment in the commercial range. The quality of the ride on lawn mowers would increase as also their style. You would also have a lot more options. You could then start your search by looking at what are known as zero turn mowers. Such units are very popular as they can be fun driving. They are also able to cut grass more quickly as compared to the average non zero turn machines. The most important feature of these machines is that they have 2 leavers that you are supposed to hold on to in order to steer the lawn mower to the right or left. These are similar to controls of an army tank or those of the steer skid bobcat kind. If you want the lawn mower to move forward you will have to push both the sticks forward at once together. To turn right or left you would have to push a stick backward and another forward. These machines will usually have the deck for cutting underneath the seat or underneath the driver’s feet, out front. There would also be only 2 main wheels for driving, one on either side of the lawn mower. There is another model of the zero turn ride on lawn mowers that is equipped with a wheel for steering, for example, the Cub Cadet ride on lawn mowers. These mowers are able to mow much more grass per acre per hour as compared to the average ride on mower. You are also able to move sharply so that you will not have to keep moving backwards, forwards, backwards, forwards to turn a corner. You would then be able to follow any curve around the edge of the garden or tree, letting you have maximum efficiency or cutting time.
